About MEP-QS
MEP-QS publishes training for the people who price mechanical, electrical and public health packages in the UK. That is the whole remit. We do not cover general construction, and we are not trying to.
Why building services specifically
Quantity surveying training treats MEP as a footnote. You will find a chapter on building services at the back of a general measurement text, and very little else that goes deeper than naming the systems.
Meanwhile the services packages routinely carry a large share of the project value, a disproportionate share of the risk, and almost all of the items that get missed. Most estimators learn them by getting one wrong and remembering it.
That is an expensive way to learn something, and an avoidable one.
How the courses are written
Every course follows the same discipline, which is roughly the order the work happens in:
start at the drawings and the specification, because most estimating errors are reading errors before they are arithmetic errors
work through measurement with real quantities, not illustrative ones
name the specific mistakes, and show what each one does to the number
carry it through to rates, preliminaries, qualifications and submission
finish with a knowledge check you can actually fail
Where a figure appears, it comes from a worked example you can follow line by line. Nothing is quoted from an unsourced table and left for you to trust.
One example, from the plumbing course. A drainage stack works out at 62 fittings against 22 metres of pipe, with roughly half the labour sitting in the fittings. That single ratio is why measuring drainage by the metre under-prices it, and it is the kind of thing that is obvious once someone shows you and invisible until they do.

When something goes live
A course is published when it is finished, and not before. There is no release schedule here and nothing is put on sale early to fill a gap in a list. We would rather sell a small catalogue worth paying for than a large one that is thin in places.
Everything on sale is on the courses page. If you want to know when something new appears, the free take-off checklist puts you on the list, and that is the only announcement there is.
Standards and corrections
Each course is written against current UK practice and reviewed when standards or contract forms change. Updates are free to anyone who already owns the course.
If you find something wrong, tell us. Email admin@mep-qs.com with the course and the lesson and we will check it, correct it if you are right, and say so. Estimating is a field where people disagree about method for good reasons, and a correction from someone doing the work is worth more than another editorial pass.
