Courses for the people pricing building services

Mechanical, electrical and public health work carries a large share of the project value, most of the risk, and almost all of the items that get missed. Everything here is written for that work specifically, rather than adapted from general construction with the systems renamed.

Each course starts at the drawings and the specification and carries through to the number you submit, or the position you have to defend once the job is running. Worked examples with real quantities, the specific mistakes named, and the commercial judgement that otherwise takes years on site to pick up.

    Choose a course

Every one is bought once and kept permanently. The price is on the card, and each opens the full contents before you buy.

    How buying works

    • bought outright and kept permanently, with revisions included free

    • written and self-paced, readable on any device, no schedule and no deadline

    • no software required - measurement, rates and judgement, not a package

    • UK standards, UK contract forms and sterling pricing throughout

    • 14-day refund, no form and no explanation needed

    Who they are for

Electrical, mechanical and plumbing estimators; building services quantity surveyors; QSs moving across from general construction; trainees a year or two into a commercial role; and tradespeople moving into estimating. The material assumes you can read a drawing and nothing beyond that.

If you have priced services for years, the value tends to sit in the disciplines nobody formally taught you: qualifications, risk, tender assembly, and the contract mechanisms that decide whether you keep the margin you priced. Every course page lists its contents in full, so you can judge that before paying rather than after.

One course, or all of them

Buying a course outright is the better deal if you work in one discipline. It costs less than a few months of membership and it stays yours whatever happens next. MEP Essentials membership covers everything published and everything released while you are a member, monthly or yearly with no minimum term, which is worth it if you work across more than one discipline.

    Training a team

Multi-seat access and invoicing against a purchase order are handled directly, and per-seat pricing is agreed by volume. See training for teams.

    Not sure yet

Start with the free take-off checklist: the items most often missed on an MEP take-off, with a line on each explaining what it does to your tender. It costs nothing, and it will tell you quickly whether the way this material is written suits you.

You can also browse the full catalogue as a plain list, or email admin@mep-qs.com and ask directly whether a course covers what you need.
